Our Story
Founded in 1988 by Larry Fink and a team of seven partners, BlackRock began as a fixed income asset manager with a vision to help clients understand and manage risk. Today, we are the world's largest asset manager, trusted by millions of people and the world's largest institutions to help them invest for their future.
Our journey has been defined by innovation. In 1999, we launched Aladdin, our proprietary risk analytics platform that revolutionized how investors understand portfolio risk. In 2006, we merged with Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, expanding our global reach. The 2009 acquisition of Barclays Global Investors brought iShares into the BlackRock family, making us a leader in ETF investing.
